About The Position

This position involves assisting patrons with library services, including checking out and renewing materials, answering questions about policies, and resolving patron problems. The role also includes processing circulation reports, assisting with library card applications, managing incoming and outgoing materials, and inspecting/repairing damaged items. Additionally, the position involves accepting payments, maintaining patron interaction statistics, assisting with basic computer and printing questions, managing study room reservations, organizing new books, and participating in community outreach programs. The role requires the ability to work scheduled hours, cope with job-related stress, and potentially work day, evening, and weekend hours, including occasional mandatory Sundays.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with customers face to face.
  • A high school diploma, or G.E.D.
  • Be available to work day, evening, and weekend hours - including Sundays
  • Be able to navigate basic computer functions, including Microsoft Word, Excel, internet browsing, and be able to learn Library’s computer systems with simple training.
  • Able to work the normally scheduled work time for this position.
  • Able to cope with daily job-related stress.

Responsibilities

  • Checks-out and renews materials to patrons.
  • Assists patrons with questions regarding library policies and services, and works to resolve patron problems, using good and appropriate judgment.
  • Provides quick reference assistance with locating materials for patrons.
  • Processes circulation reports (e.g. hold expired, hold-cancelled, pull-list, damaged, local missing).
  • Assists patrons with library card applications.
  • Processes all outgoing and incoming materials in a timely manner.
  • Processes and shelves holds.
  • Brings in outside bin.
  • Inspects DVDs and CDs for appropriate items.
  • Evaluates all damaged materials, cleans and makes minor repairs if able, deletes book from system if needed, and seeks guidance from Librarian for assessment of damage charge.
  • Accepts payments for overdue, lost and damaged materials.
  • Maintains detailed statistics of all patron interactions through Desk Tracker.
  • Helps patrons with basic computer and printing questions.
  • Makes, cancels and monitors study room reservations.
  • Maintains order of new books in display area.
  • Participates in community outreach programs to promote the library, assists with summer reading program, and represents the library at neighborhood meetings and community events.
  • Able to work the normally scheduled work time for this position.
  • Able to cope with daily job-related stress.
