About The Position

Maintains and preserves horticultural and botanical features using sound horticultural practices; educates visitors; safeguards and enhances departmental assets; and ensures high‑quality service and product delivery—all of which elevates the guest experience at the zoo.

Requirements

Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Must be at least 18 years of age to operate vehicles and riding or landscape equipment.
Basic knowledge of relevant computer and software applications, including word processing and spreadsheet programs.
Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
Ability to push/pull up to 75 lbs.

Nice To Haves

Valid driver’s license
WI DATCP Category 3.0, 3.1, or equivalent Pesticide Applicator License.

Responsibilities

Plant, clean, and maintain annual and perennial flower beds throughout the zoo grounds.
Plant and maintain trees and shrubs throughout zoo grounds.
Watering, mulching, fertilizing, weeding, pruning, cleaning, and maintaining ornamental annuals, perennials, turfgrass, and shrubs throughout the zoo grounds.
Create new and renovate existing ornamental and native planting areas through thorough site preparation, including invasive species removal, soil amendments, grading, and installation of hardscape features.
Operate hedgers, string trimmers, aerators, rototillers, and other small-engine landscaping equipment.
Design, set up, and maintain seasonal and special event decorative displays and photo opportunities using live and artificial plants, props, lighting, and other elements.
Seasonal maintenance of zoo grounds, including snow removal, litter and trash collection, and leaf blowing.
Provide information and direction to zoo visitors.
Assist other zoo departments and guests.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
