This role is for a Zoo Maintenance Worker Assistant who will support the maintenance and repair of zoo buildings, equipment, and grounds, performing entry-level tasks and assisting skilled trades.

Requirements

  • Current resident of Wisconsin.
  • Possession of a Wisconsin Driver’s License at the time of hire, able to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Able to lift/carry and push/pull up to 50lbs.
  • Willing to work irregular hours with overtime, weekends, or shift rotation.
  • Basic knowledge of Outlook, Learning Management Systems, and Spreadsheets.

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanical background or previous experience.
  • Technical training in maintenance or trade from high school or a technical college.
  • Maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain zoo structures and equipment, and help build props inside animal exhibits under the guidance of the Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Workers.
  • Install weather stripping for doors and windows.
  • Caulk windows and buildings to increase energy efficiency.
  • Perform basic painting of structures and equipment both indoors and outdoors.
  • Assist the Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Workers, and skilled trades as needed.
  • Assist the System Control Coordinator take meter readings.
  • Perform basic data entry into Cityworks.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
