Zoo Keeper - Primates
About The Position
The Chattanooga Zoo is seeking a zookeeper to join its primates team, which cares for chimpanzees, mangabeys, and five species of callitrichids. The role involves daily animal husbandry and record keeping, maintaining animal areas and enclosures, assisting with veterinary procedures and medication distribution, and implementing training and enrichment programs. The keeper may also assist with special projects and must maintain compliance with USDA and AZA regulations and standards, including requirements for record keeping, husbandry, training, and enrichment. The ideal candidate has a strong background implementing enrichment and training programs, including training animals for veterinary care behaviors.
Requirements
- A three- or four-year college degree or equivalent experience.
- At least 1–2 years of animal care experience.
- Ability to lift, bend, and twist 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in all types of weather.
Nice To Haves
- Animal care experience at an AZA-accredited facility is preferred.
- Experience with large and small primates is preferred.
- A strong background in enrichment and training program implementation, including training for veterinary care behaviors.
Responsibilities
- Perform day-to-day animal husbandry.

- Perform routine maintenance of the physical area and enclosures.
- Assist with veterinary procedures and distribute medications to animals.
