About The Position

Central State Hospital (CSH) is a 277-bed Joint Commission accredited psychiatric inpatient facility located in Petersburg, Virginia. CSH has proudly been serving citizens of the Commonwealth since 1870. A new and modern CSH is currently under construction on the same property, with a scheduled completion date of 2027. CSH maintains the only maximum-security treatment facility in the state (111 beds). We also have 166 beds available for individuals in the community who need inpatient care, as well as individuals in the criminal justice system. This position is responsible for ensuring journeyman-level HVAC work is performed with the responsibility of determining the appropriate work methods. Performing assignments independently, therefore responsible for planning the assigned work, following sketches, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.

Requirements

Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions necessary to perform assigned job duties safely and effectively.
A valid Virginia driver’s license.
EPA Section 608 Universal certification.
State of Virginia HVAC or Journeyman license.
Documented hands-on experience in commercial or industrial HVAC installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Nice To Haves

Master HVAC license.
NATE certification.
Experience with building automation systems and direct digital control (BAS/DDC).

Responsibilities

Responsible for performing skilled maintenance, installation, and repairs of heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment and related control systems.
Responsible for performing maintenance and repair duties required of Zone Mechanics which involves aspects of carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing to keep assigned zone in working order.
Assessing potential problems, hazards, and opportunities to maintain assigned Zone assets to prevent unplanned impairments.
