About The Position

RockStep Capital is seeking a hands-on YouTube producer to transform The Shopping Center Channel into a premier source of content on shopping centers and retail real estate. This role requires a blend of production skills and channel strategy, involving topic identification, script development, video production, editing, content creation (including Shorts), thumbnail design, publishing, performance analysis, and iterative improvement based on data. The primary focus will be on producing videos featuring subject matter experts, turning raw footage into engaging content through effective storytelling, pacing, B-roll, graphics, sound, and visual variety. The ideal candidate will understand that success depends not only on polished production but also on compelling topics, titles, thumbnails, and opening hooks. The Shopping Center Channel aims to educate investors, retailers, economic-development leaders, and others interested in retail real estate, covering topics such as investing, mall redevelopment, retailer strategy, consumer behavior, and the future of American retail.

Requirements

  • A portfolio demonstrating strong shooting, editing, visual storytelling, and YouTube packaging skills.
  • Hands-on experience producing long-form YouTube videos and short-form clips.
  • Evidence of channel growth attributed to your work, with the ability to explain the process and results.
  • Strong thumbnail design instincts, including knowledge of composition, contrast, typography, facial expression, and visual hierarchy.
  • Ability to interpret YouTube analytics and translate data into actionable editorial decisions.
  • Strong scripting and story-development skills, including experience using AI tools in a production workflow.
  • Sound judgment regarding B-roll, pacing, music, graphics, and pattern interruptions.
  • Working knowledge of lighting, camera composition, teleprompter production, color correction, audio capture, and audio cleanup.
  • Proficiency with professional editing platforms such as DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro.
  • Experience with tools like Descript, Shutter Encoder, Opus Clip, Canva, Photoshop, or comparable software.
  • Strong organization and project-management habits.
  • Clear communication, sound judgment, and the confidence to propose alternative ideas.
  • A self-directed working style with the ability to take ownership, meet deadlines, receive feedback, and continuously improve.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in commercial real estate, investing, finance, business education, or documentary-style content.
  • Motion graphics or animation skills.
  • Experience filming executives or other subject matter experts.
  • Familiarity with YouTube thumbnail and title testing.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a practical content plan for The Shopping Center Channel.
  • Research topics with strong audience potential grounded in RockStep’s real experience.
  • Develop titles and thumbnail concepts before production.
  • Track key channel metrics such as click-through rate, audience retention, watch time, returning viewers, and subscriber growth.
  • Run experiments with topics, titles, thumbnails, hooks, formats, and video length.
  • Translate analytics into specific changes for future videos.
  • Maintain a consistent publishing calendar without sacrificing quality.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team, subject matter experts, and leadership to develop video ideas.
  • Utilize AI tools to create outlines, scripts, and interview questions.
  • Fact-check scripts while preserving the speaker's natural voice and expertise.
  • Plan B-roll, graphics, and visual transitions.
  • Prepare the set, teleprompter, lighting, audio, camera, and talent for efficient recording sessions.
  • Direct and film executives, team members, guests, and other subjects.
  • Coach subjects to be comfortable on camera and deliver clearly.
  • Set up and operate production equipment including cameras, microphones, teleprompters, and lighting.
  • Capture original B-roll and source licensed footage and assets.
  • Film in the Houston office and occasionally at other locations.
  • Edit long-form YouTube videos with attention to pacing, audio, color, B-roll, graphics, and motion.
  • Create Shorts and clips from various content sources.
  • Design clear, high-contrast thumbnails that generate curiosity.
  • Write and refine titles, descriptions, chapters, end screens, cards, and playlists.
  • Upload, schedule, organize, and quality-check all videos.
  • Maintain and organize project files, footage, graphics, templates, and finished assets.
  • Maintain and manage RockStep’s production equipment and software.
  • Produce secondary video projects such as investor videos, podcast clips, social media videos, sales videos, and internal communications as capacity allows.
  • Publish one strong long-form YouTube video each week.
  • Produce multiple useful Shorts from long-form and existing content.
  • Improve topic selection, titles, thumbnails, opening hooks, and viewer retention through regular testing.
  • Increase qualified views, watch time, returning viewers, and subscribers over time.
  • Build a repeatable workflow from idea generation to performance review.
  • Help identify topics and formats that earn attention and build trust within the retail real estate community.
  • Deliver secondary video projects without impacting the channel’s core publishing cadence.
