About The Position

The Salvation Army – Henderson United Corps is seeking a part-time Youth Worker. The mission of The Salvation Army is to preach Jesus Christ's gospel and meet human needs in His name without discrimination. This role involves leading and assisting with various youth programs, providing support for divisional and territorial events, coordinating transportation, preparing meals, leading fundraising efforts, and liaising with schools and parents. The position requires a strong Christian commitment, integrity, and the ability to work independently with approval from Corps Officers. The Youth Worker must be organized, proficient in Microsoft Office, capable of operating office equipment, and represent The Salvation Army positively. A demonstrated ability to relate to diverse youth populations and communicate effectively with stakeholders is essential. This position has access to confidential information and requires strict adherence to privacy and confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Two years experience working with children in a Corps/Church setting and/or a two years college degree in Youth Ministries or Christian Education.
  • Must be a Christian with a strong personal commitment to Christ, a person of high integrity, professed Christian beliefs and lifestyle.
  • Must feel comfortable discussing Christianity with children and adults.
  • Must be capable of making independent judgments with the approval of, but independent of constant supervision from the Corps Officer(s).
  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to operate office equipment such as FAX machines, copy machines, printers, laminating machines, etc.
  • Must be well organized and able to maintain files and materials.
  • Must always positively represent The Salvation Army in personal conduct and appearance.
  • A demonstrated ability to relate to and work with young persons from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents, volunteers, and other professionals such as school Principals, schoolteachers, etc.
  • Must possess a valid food handler’s permit.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to meet all requirements to drive a Salvation Army Vehicle.
  • Must receive training and certification for The Salvation Army policies and ensure compliance in all programs and facilities.
  • Required to pass a background check.
  • Qualified individuals must be able to perform the position's essential duties with or without accommodation.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • The employee must have the ability to operate a telephone, desktop, or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and assist with Corps Programs including Salvation Army Youth Programs (S.A.Y.), Sunday School classes, Sunday Morning Worship services, fellowship times, visitation, Bible studies, outreach, young adult's ministries, After School programs, Summer Day Camp, and transportation.
  • Provide support for and attend Divisional and Territorial programs related to youth, such as Youth Retreats, Summer Camps, Youth Camp, and Family Camp.
  • Lead the Youth Ministries and Youth Programs.
  • Provide support to other Outreach Programs.
  • Drive and coordinate transportation for Youth programs and events for the Corps program.
  • Prepare and cook meals and snacks for Youth programs.
  • Lead and coordinate fundraising events for the youth program.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the program with local school leaders and teachers, including tutoring, transportation, and scheduling.
  • Coordinate attendance with children's parents.
  • Link participants to seasonal and S.A.Y. programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Corps Officers.
  • Observe confidentiality and privacy regarding access to confidential and private information.
