About The Position

Adams Lake Indian Band is seeking one fulltime Youth Activities Worker for IR #4. The Youth Worker will report to Le7 r knucten. Youth Worker responsibilities include assisting in developing work plans and supervision of the youth. Providing a variety of educational, recreational and community youth programs and activities to assist youth in the development of social and personal growth as members and community members of the Adams Lake Indian Band.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent (certificate or diploma required)
  • Experience working with high-risk youth and families
  • Experience working in First Nations environment
  • Good verbal and written communications skills and organization skills
  • Confidentiality when dealing with a variety of people and sensitive information
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently
  • Flexibility is a must to adapt to changing work priorities
  • Must work weekends and evenings with minimal supervision
  • Valid Class 4 BC Driver's License (or willing to obtain Class 4 within probationary period)
  • Current Drivers Abstract (Copy)
  • Level One First Aid Certificate
  • Current valid Class 5 BC Driver’s license
  • Current Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector clearance with results acceptable to ALIB

Responsibilities

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Adams Lake Band policies and procedures
  • Creates and develops a rapport and relationship with all youth, the ALIB staff, community and various external agencies (School, Agencies and Organizations, RCMP)
  • Plans, advertises, organizes, and supervises children and youth in recreational activities
  • Plans and delivers recreational athletic fitness and sporting activities
  • Assist in developing new initiatives, activities and events
  • Encourages participation of the entire family in activities and events
  • Plans and organize activities that encourage the youth to be interactive with youth from outside the community
  • Provides information and referrals to community services such as health care, addictions counselling, mental health services, educational services and employment services
  • Collaborates with Cultural supports, Elders Coordinator, and community to increase the participation of youth in traditional Secwepemc activities
  • Encourages volunteerism and positive helpful behavior in youth
  • Maintains work and activities area in clean and professional manner
  • Maintains the 14-passenger work Van (ALIB Fleet) according to vehicle inspections, including cleanliness and upkeep of the vehicle log books)
  • Understands the responsibilities and obligation under the Duty to Report
  • Reports all safety concerns for youth and staff in a timely manner to supervisor
  • Other related duties as required

Benefits

  • Wage range: $24 - $28 per hour
