About The Position

The American Red Cross is seeking a Youth Volunteer Engagement Specialist to implement and execute youth and young adult volunteer programs supporting regional recruitment and engagement. This role involves assisting with the recruitment, screening, and placement of volunteers, potentially serving as a liaison to internal and external partners, and providing support, development, and guidance to youth and young adult volunteers. The position is an individual contributor role that works under limited supervision and requires the capacity to understand specific needs and apply skills and knowledge. Knowledge of Youth/Young Adult volunteer programs is preferred. The role requires the ability to travel around a two-state region.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience.
  • Ability to work on a team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple and continuously evolving priorities effectively.
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel around two state-region.
  • Combination of candidate’s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description’s minimum education and general experience years combined.
  • Regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of group dynamics, customer maintenance techniques, negotiation skills, and the ability to effectively implement programs is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Youth/Young Adult volunteer programs preferred.
  • Volunteer Management Experience recruiting, coordinating, training, and supporting volunteers while fostering engagement, accountability, and a positive, mission-driven experience.
  • Demonstrates strong collaboration skills, actively contributes to team success, and works effectively with diverse stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
  • Communicates clearly, professionally, and confidently across a variety of audiences and channels, ensuring alignment and understanding.
  • Creates and delivers engaging, well-organized, and impactful presentations tailored to the audience and business objectives.
  • Builds strong, trust-based relationships with candidates, hiring managers, volunteers, and cross-functional partners through credibility, influence, and effective communication.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant systems and tools to support daily operations and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute input and serve as a resource for Youth/Young Adult volunteer recruitment and engagement best practices.
  • Empower youth volunteerism and leadership by building connections between youth and the Red Cross mission.
  • Implement, execute, and monitor Youth/Young adult volunteer engagement and retention strategies to include interaction with the volunteer community both personally and through the volunteer infrastructure.
  • Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and support of regional Red Cross Clubs.
  • Meet with stakeholders and ensure alignment of established goals to volunteer needs.
  • Develop and supervise volunteer teams to support Youth/Young Adult and Red Cross Club engagement.
  • Facilitate formal and informal Youth/Young Adult recognition efforts and events to promote community and honor the volunteer experience and contributions.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.
