Youth Volunteer - Aquatic Swim Lessons

About The Position

Volunteers assist certified swim instructors with a variety of swim lesson activities for children and provide active supervision to ensure the safety of all participants.

Requirements

  • Between 13 and 17 years of age.
  • Completion of minimum of Emergency First Aid with CPR C or Bronze Medallion.
  • Completion of Volunteer Training – Provided by Westside.

Responsibilities

  • Actively assist the assigned swim instructor by maintaining safety supervision of children and management of students during class.
  • Assist the certified swim instructors and provide some coaching, demonstrations, and support to children in swim lessons.
  • Enforce all Westside pool rules.
  • Willing and adaptable to learning new processes and following procedures.
  • Welcome participants and customers as they enter the space or program.
  • Be helpful and courteous to staff and customers – direct patrons to the Lifeguard / Instructors if they have any questions.
  • Be aware and educated in all the emergency procedures.
  • Assist assigned instructor to ensure all lesson toys/equipment are put out in appropriate spots prior to the start of class.
  • Assist assigned instructor by actively monitoring during class by being a great role model: listen to the instructor, sit with the group during instructions, etc.
  • Arrive on time and ready for shift wearing proper uniform.
  • Regularly check messages and maintain communication with supervisors.
  • Be responsible for logging hours on appropriate time sheets.
