About The Position

The Swim Lessons Coordinator will provide instruction to students enrolled in swim lessons and will oversee scheduling and staffing for swim lessons. This role involves ensuring the safety and well-being of aquatic participants, enforcing safety procedures, and creating a positive pool environment. The coordinator will instruct swim lessons according to YMCA guidelines, build relationships with students and parents, and promote other YMCA programs. They will also maintain class records, attend staff meetings, schedule and manage swim lessons, and ensure adherence to YMCA policies. Additionally, the role includes training new instructors, maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the pool area, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid YMCA lifeguarding certification.
  • Must be CPR, First Aid, AED and Bloodborne Pathogens certified.
  • Must be a certified Swim Lesson instructor within 60 days of hire.
  • Completion of Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills and ability to market programs to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Responsibilities

  • Guarantee the safety and well-being of aquatic participants by being alert and aware of potential danger areas.
  • Enforce prescribed safety procedures and rules of good behavior and courtesy to ensure a safe and pleasant pool environment for participants.
  • Greet and give directions to all pool participants in a warm and friendly manner.
  • Instruct swim lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines including having prepared lesson plans.
  • Build effective, authentic relationships with students enrolled in swim lessons as well as their parents.
  • Convey correct information on aquatics programs and schedules and refer students and parents to other programs.
  • Maintain class records (i.e. attendance, progress reports, schedules, etc.).
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Schedule and manage swim lessons for all students.
  • Know and follow all YMCA policies and procedures including those for emergencies and accidents.
  • Help train new Swim Lesson Instructors.
  • Keep pool area neat by keeping all pool equipment out of the path of traffic, and immediately reporting to maintenance any unclean or hazardous area.
  • Accept and complete other duties that may be assigned as needed.
