About The Position

The Youth Theatre Assistant Director supports the Youth Theatre Director in bringing productions to life—from rehearsals and performances to participant supervision and family communication. You’ll help create a safe, organized, and genuinely fun theatre experience for young performers while gaining meaningful experience in youth arts programming.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Previous experience in theatre production, performance, stage management, or a related area.
  • Experience working with children in an educational, recreational, or performance-based setting.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required by rehearsal and performance schedules.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents/guardians, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to follow direction, exercise sound judgement, and support program goals.
  • Is at least 18 years old and has experience in theatre or stage management
  • Enjoys working with children in creative, educational, or performance settings
  • Can commit to evening and weekend rehearsals and performances
  • Is organized, dependable, and comfortable taking direction
  • Communicates well with kids, families, and fellow staff
  • Wants real-world experience in youth arts programming—not just busy work

Responsibilities

  • Support the artistic and administrative execution of youth theatre productions
  • Assist with auditions, casting activities, and rehearsal planning
  • Serve as rehearsal stage manager, including tracking attendance and supporting rehearsal flow
  • Lead or assist with warm-ups and age-appropriate theatre activities
  • Supervise youth participants during rehearsals, performances, and program activities
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with participants, parents/guardians, and staff
  • Assist with parent communications, schedules, newsletters, and promotional materials
  • Maintain accurate program records, including attendance, waivers, and incident reports
  • Attend required rehearsals, meetings, performances, paint calls, load-ins, and load-outs
  • Follow all safety policies and uphold confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program success
