About The Position

This position requires the Youth to serve in various roles within the Glendale Maintenance department for production and cross-training purposes, as directed by their supervisor. The specific duties vary based on age. For ages 14-15, duties are limited to Clerical Work or Data Entry Only. Ages 16-17 will be involved in Basic Yard Maintenance, Painting, and Clean-Up. Individuals aged 18 and above will work in the mill in various positions such as Dryer Feeder, Dryer Grader, Sheet Station Operator, Log Yard Taper, Polyline Operator, and Bander Operator. Requirements

  • Must be a youth participant.
  • Age 14-15: Clerical Work or Data Entry Only.
  • Age 16-17: Basic Yard Maintenance, Painting, and Clean-Up.
  • Age 18+: Will work in the mill in various positions such as; Dryer Feeder, Dryer Grader, Sheet Station Operator, Log Yard Taper, Polyline Operator, Bander Operator.
  • Must adhere to safety and quality standards.
  • Must follow Job Hazard Analysis and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Must be able to maintain safety and quality standards.
  • Must be able to maintain the pace of the dryer (Dryer Feeder).

Responsibilities

  • Serve in various positions as directed by supervisor for production and cross-training.
  • Perform Clerical Work or Data Entry (Ages 14-15).
  • Perform Basic Yard Maintenance, Painting, and Clean-Up (Ages 16-17).
  • Operate machinery in the mill, including Dryer Feeder, Dryer Grader, Sheet Station Operator, Log Yard Taper, Polyline Operator, and Bander Operator (Ages 18+).
  • Keep the veneer dryer at least 97% full of quality veneer while maintaining safety and quality (Dryer Feeder).
  • Feed sheets into the dryer, moving back and forth on a platform, keeping up with the pace of the dryer and adhering to safety and quality standards.
  • Band finished plywood loads and ensure correct unit labeling (Bander Operator).
  • Patch panels coming from the presses using putty and epoxy to upgrade finish quality (Polyline Operator).
  • Use a putty knife and poly gun to spread putty/epoxy on panel surfaces.
  • Use a router to remove defects as outlined by APA standards.
  • Work with co-workers in a continuous cycle to maintain the flow of panels through the patch line.
