About The Position

BGC Weston Mount Dennis serves children and youth in the Weston Mount Dennis and surrounding communities. We provide social, physical, educational, creative, seasonal, and community support programs that foster growth, confidence, and belonging. Our approach to youth development is holistic, with mental health and wellbeing woven into everyday experiences. Through safe, supportive spaces, meaningful relationships, and engaging programming, youth are encouraged to express themselves, build resilience, and develop the skills needed to navigate life’s challenges. The Youth Mentor is a leadership and facilitation-focused role responsible for delivering structured programming, mentoring youth participants, and supporting the development of leadership, event planning, and workplace readiness skills. This role plays a key part in guiding youth through the creation and execution of two major events, while fostering confidence, teamwork, and personal growth.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a camp or youth program setting (required)
  • Experience working with youth ages 13+ (required)
  • Experience facilitating workshops or structured programming
  • Strong ability to plan, implement, and evaluate engaging programs
  • Ability to implement structured frameworks and program materials
  • Skills in leadership, arts, recreation, education, or social programming
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to engage and manage youth in group settings
  • Current First Aid & CPR-C (mandatory)
  • Police Reference Check within the last 6 months (required prior to start)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience mentoring youth or supporting leadership development programs (asset)
  • HIGH FIVE: Principles of Healthy Child Development (asset)
  • Valid Driver’s License (asset)

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and facilitate workshops for youth ages 13–18 (e.g., leadership, financial literacy, event planning, employment readiness)
  • Lead and support participants within the Leadership-in-Training (LIT) Program
  • Mentor youth in developing leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
  • Guide youth through the planning and execution of three community events
  • Design and deliver inclusive, engaging, and skill-based programming (arts, recreation, social topics)
  • Review and implement program manuals and resources provided by BGC Canada
  • Integrate R2 and Respect 2 Connect frameworks into daily programming
  • Support youth in building confidence and readiness for future employment opportunities
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment at all times
  • Supervise participants and follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Manage group dynamics and resolve conflicts appropriately
  • Complete administrative tasks (attendance, program plans, reports) accurately and on time
  • Assist with Club-wide initiatives and events
  • Maintain professional relationships with youth, families, staff, and community members
  • Attend all required meetings, training sessions, and briefings
  • Arrive a minimum of 15 minutes prior to each scheduled shift
