About The Position

BGC Jane and Finch is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where children and youth can learn, grow, and build positive relationships. Our summer camp programs focus on recreation, leadership, creativity, and community involvement. We are seeking enthusiastic, responsible, and energetic Youth Summer Camp Mentors to support the delivery of our summer camp programs for children ages 11-18. Mentors will play a key role in creating a fun, inclusive, and safe camp experience.

Requirements

  • Educational background applicable to the position
  • Experience working with children ages 6–12
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Be legally entitled to work according to provincial/territorial legislation
  • Strong program planning and organizational skills
  • Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills
  • Good decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (mandatory)
  • Police Reference Check completed within the last 6 months (mandatory prior to start date)

Nice To Haves

  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience in camp, recreation, or childcare settings
  • HIGH FIVE: Principles of Healthy Child Development training

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and actively engage children in daily camp activities
  • Plan and lead recreational, educational, and creative programming
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants at all times
  • Foster positive behavior and act as a role model
  • Assist with daily routines, transitions, meals, and outdoor activities
  • Communicate effectively with staff, participants, and families
  • Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and safety protocols
