About The Position

The Youth Sports Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering youth sports programs that align with the YMCA’s mission to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This position fosters an inclusive, safe, and character-driven sports environment for all participants, parents, coaches, officials, and staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of youth sports rules, best practices, age-appropriate skill development, and positive coaching techniques.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple activities and manage time effectively.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to recruit, train, and lead volunteers, including coaches and referees.
  • Knowledge of basic athletic field maintenance principles and safe working practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree in sports science preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives/standards.
  • Create and monitor program registration, updating registration information as needed.
  • Create teams of players, sourcing a coach for each team, and coordinating each team’s practice and game schedule.
  • Source, assign, and pay referees for each game.
  • Initiate, establish, and maintain effective communication with volunteers and parents.
  • Hire, orient, train, develop, schedule, and direct staff and volunteers.
  • Review and evaluate staff performance.
  • Ensure records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Establish new program activities and expand the program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programming.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children in the program by providing close supervision of practices and games.
  • Conduct coaches, officials and volunteer clinics and training courses and ensure they are following BVFYMCA standards, including background checks.
  • Monitor equipment for safety and purchase new equipment and materials utilizing purchase orders and check requests.
  • Assist in regular field maintenance at athletic complexes.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely program records including, but not limited to volunteer rosters, registration sheets, and accident/incident reports.
  • Assist in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  • Attend and actively participate in all staff meetings and training.
