About The Position

The Seasonal Parks & Rec Youth Sports Coordinator assists with coordination, implementation, and on-site supervision of the City of Whitehall's youth basketball program. The role supports practices and games, assists volunteer coaches and officials, manages sports equipment, operates the basketball scoreclock and scoreboard, and provides coaching or officiating support as needed. The coordinator may also manage scheduled turf rentals on site, ensuring facilities are prepared, activities are conducted safely, and facility rules and procedures are followed. The position works non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

Requirements

Valid driver's license.
Passion for youth sports and experience playing, coaching, and/or administering sports.
Experience coordinating on-site event details.
Professionalism when working with diverse groups, including residents, staff, community leaders, donors, and funded partners.
Excellent customer service skills when working with the public.
Adaptability and the ability to switch gears quickly as situations change.
Self-starter who can work independently and with minimal supervision.
Ability to assist with coaching, officiating, equipment management, and facility supervision as needed.
Close attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to draft and type correspondence.
Ability and skills to assist and direct youth sports coaches.
Ability to adhere to regulations, policies, and procedures required by the City of Whitehall, Franklin County Board of Health, and other governing bodies.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to problem solve and use good judgment while performing job-related tasks.
Manual dexterity to grasp, install, manipulate, or assemble objects.
Sufficient personal mobility, stamina, flexibility, and balance to organize and implement operations involving bending, stooping, kneeling, stretching, and other physical exertions.
Pass a criminal background check with no wants or warrants.

Nice To Haves

College degree in an area related to recreation or education.
Experience coordinating parks and recreation programming.
Experience coaching or officiating youth basketball.

Responsibilities

Assist with coordination and on-site operations of youth basketball practices and games, including communication with volunteer coaches, officials, participants, and facility staff.
Attend scheduled practices and games to provide operational support, assist coaches, monitor activities, and address routine program needs.
Assist volunteer coaches with practice organization, basketball fundamentals, drills, equipment, and questions about league procedures.
Demonstrate knowledge of basic basketball rules, violations, fouls, and game procedures.
Assist with coaching or officiating games as needed.
Operate the basketball scoreclock and scoreboard, tracking game time, scores, periods, and fouls as applicable.
Work with the Youth Sports Supervisor to ensure gymnasiums and other assigned facilities are prepared, organized, and properly equipped.
Assist with enforcing league rules, participant codes of conduct, safety procedures, and established program policies; refer significant complaints or disciplinary matters to the appropriate supervisor.
Serve as the on-site manager for assigned turf rental shifts, including preparing facilities, monitoring scheduled use, assisting rental groups, enforcing facility rules, and completing opening and closing procedures.
Communicate scheduling changes, equipment needs, facility concerns, and other operational updates to the Youth Sports Supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned.
