About The Position

The Youth Specialist role at Brooklyn Youth Center focuses on developing community relationships and employment/intern opportunities for youth. This position involves engaging youth in job fairs and career-building events, providing vocational instruction, assisting with GED preparation, and developing various youth programs and activities. The specialist will also represent the center in community forums and ensure grant deliverables are met.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and understanding of at-risk youth population required.
  • Flexibility in schedule required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bi-lingual preferred.
  • High School, BA/BS degree preferred.
  • Driver’s license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop community relationships and employment/intern opportunities for youth.
  • Engage youth in job fairs and career building events.
  • Maintain up to date documentation of all services provided, including group notes and attendance.
  • Provide vocational instruction for building computer skills, reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Assist youth in GED preparation.
  • Develop regularly scheduled groups, workshops, seminars, and outings for youth.
  • Increase the number of on-site activities for youth ‘dropping-in”.
  • Increase volunteer participation and mentoring opportunities.
  • Represent Independence Inn Brooklyn Drop-In Center at appropriate community and program related forums, as assigned by supervisor.
  • Develop method of tracking youth participation, in conjunction with supervisor.
  • Ensure that all grant deliverables with come under the purview of the position are met.
  • Perform other relevant duties as delegated by supervisor.
