About The Position

The Youth Specialist will provide 24/7 supervision for clients, ensuring adherence to the daily schedule and program structure. This role involves developing and modeling positive relationships with youth, colleagues, and the treatment team. The specialist is responsible for ensuring clients receive quality care in health, safety, clothing, and meals, and must be able to provide therapeutic crisis intervention. A commitment to maintaining a safe, orderly, caring, and therapeutic environment is essential, fostering a positive living experience for residents. Responsibilities also include accompanying youth to school, appointments, and activities, confronting negative behaviors, and completing necessary documentation such as daily logs and incident reports. The role requires attending in-service training and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Minimum possession of a High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in group work involving direct care and interaction with children.
  • Must successfully complete Safety Crisis Management (SCM) training, including a written test and demonstration of competency in physical restraints as specified by the program and regulatory bodies.
  • Continued employment requires successful completion of all SCM refreshers.
  • Ability to work varied hours as required.
  • A valid driver’s license from NY, NJ, or CT is required.
  • Must be able to provide excellent references.

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 24/7 “eyes on” client supervision, including ensuring compliance with the daily schedule and maintaining program structure.
  • Develop and model effective relationships and behaviors with youth, co-workers, and the treatment team.
  • Ensure that residents are provided with quality care in matters of health, safety, clothing, hygiene, and meals, and provide immediate therapeutic crisis intervention as needed.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the program’s mission by supporting a safe, orderly, caring, and therapeutic environment.
  • Maintain a positive healthy environment in which residents will be exposed to meaningful living experience.
  • Accompany youth to school, appointments, and all group activities.
  • Appropriately confront negative behaviors whenever they occur.
  • Completes daily log, Incidents/Accidents/AWOL reports and procedures, documenting all significant events in an accurate and timely manner; attends in-service training sessions
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
