About The Position

The Briarpatch Youth Shelter Program is recruiting a part-time advocate to work in our temporary shelter for youth who have run away, left home, or are experiencing homelessness. This position is essential and requires you to work on inclement weather days and some holidays. The position will work primarily on 3rd shift, with approximately 11:00 PM - 9:00 AM work hours. The number of shifts will vary throughout the month.

Requirements

The equivalent of two years experience working or volunteering with teens.
Experience working in a collaborative team setting.
Must be at least 21 years old.
A valid driver’s license is required and a driving record that allows operation of agency-owned vehicles.
Reliable transportation to work required.

Nice To Haves

Experience working in a congregate care (overnight living) setting is preferred.
Ability to work with youth from diverse identities, cultures, and backgrounds.

Responsibilities

Oversees the daily activities of youth staying in the agency’s temporary shelter facility.
Records documentation of client services and required paperwork in accordance with state licensing rules and agency standards.
Helps youth staying in the shelter with meal preparation (breakfast) and completion of daily chores.
Maintains a working knowledge of shelter policies and procedures.
Maintain a safe and supportive environment for youth staying in the shelter.
Maintains the cleanliness of the shelter common spaces.
Completes half hour visual checks on youth during the night.
Remain awake and alert throughout the shift.
Administers morning medications to youth as needed.
Supports daytime staff in arranging on time school departures and possible transportation.
Flexibility to participate in continuing education programming and monthly shelter staff meetings, which may be outside of the usual schedule.
Perform other duties as assigned.
