About The Position

At Garfield County Public Library District, we see youth services as an opportunity to build connections, spark curiosity, and help young people discover the joy of reading and libraries. We're looking for a Youth Services Coordinator who brings creativity, initiative, and a genuine commitment to serving children, tweens, and families. The Carbondale Branch Library is seeking a collaborative professional to lead and develop engaging youth services for children and teens aged 0 to 18, emphasizing early literacy, elementary-age children, and tweens. This position combines programming, community engagement, collection maintenance, and relationship-building to create welcoming and meaningful experiences for young people and their caregivers. The Youth Services Coordinator will be an important part of the Carbondale team, planning and delivering services alongside other team members that respond to the needs and interests of the community. The position also builds connections with schools, families, community organizations, and colleagues throughout the District. We're looking for someone who communicates openly, shares ideas generously, supports their coworkers, and takes an active role in creating a positive, collaborative branch culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least four years of experience educating children or working in youth development programs or initiatives

  • MLS or MLIS degree
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish or another language

Responsibilities

  • Creating, planning, and implementing a variety of youth services programs
  • Performing community outreach
  • Collaborating with the Branch Manager to offer robust services for children and teens aged 0 to 18
  • Developing and delivering engaging events and classes such as storytime, STEAM programs, book clubs, and artistic activities
  • Building relationships with schools, community organizations, educators, and families through outreach and partnerships
  • Educating caregivers about early literacy practices and child development
  • Contributing to District-wide events
  • Attending meetings
  • Providing leadership and organizational support
  • Selecting books, materials, and activities for youth programs
  • Coordinating schedules with presenters and performers
  • Evaluating program effectiveness
  • Monitoring and maintaining the branch's youth collection to reflect community needs
  • Customer service at the Circulation Desk
  • Assisting patrons of all ages with general library services, account questions, and computer use
  • Addressing reference inquiries
  • Offering readers' advisory services
  • Evaluating programs to ensure they meet the developmental needs of targeted groups
  • Creating informative exhibits and displays
  • Sharing program information with other branches
  • Participating in ongoing training
  • Actively participating on the District's Youth Services Coordinator team and special projects
  • Offering guidance and education to staff and caregivers in early literacy, childhood development, and reader's advisory for youth
  • Ensuring patron compliance with library policies
  • Serving as Person in Charge in the absence of branch management
  • Taking on additional duties as assigned
