The Youth Recovery Coordinator supports teens or young adults and their families with accessing and engaging with treatment for substance use disorders or co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. As part of our Youth & Family TREE grant (Enhancement & Expansion of Treatment and Recovery Services for Adolescents, Transitional Aged Youth, and their Families), our program focuses on improving and expanding early intervention, comprehensive treatment, and recovery support services for young people aged 12-25 years old and their families in Walla Walla, Benton, and Franklin Counties. The Youth Recovery Coordinator collaborates with each client to determine which services within the program meet the client’s needs and desired outcomes, and then helps to coordinate various treatment services and community resources. When possible, the Youth Recovery Coordinator also engages each client’s immediate family to strengthen the available supports to that youth, and to provide referrals for family members who may also benefit from behavioral health treatment. Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with diverse groups of people in order to navigate family dynamics are necessary skills for this position. Comfort making home visits and working outside of an office setting are also essential.
