The New Museum of Contemporary Art is seeking a full-time Youth Programs Coordinator. Working within the Education and Public Engagement department, this role will assist in the coordination and implementation of the museum’s new teen initiatives, the NewMu Teen Fellowship and the Bowery Art Space drop-in program, as well as with the School Partnership program. The NewMu Teen Fellowship is a two-year, intensive after-school program for New York City high school students. Working directly with artists, museum staff, and community members, fellows gain creative and professional development through mentorship, work experience, and leadership opportunities. Their voices and ideas are amplified by projects including an exhibition of their art and a Youth Summit. The Bowery Art Space is a monthly, after-school, drop-in program for high school students. Facilitated by the New Museum’s Teaching Artists and guided by the museum’s learner-centered and culturally sustaining pedagogy, teens experiment with materials through hands-on workshops and explore artworks through discussion. The School Partnership program provides high school teachers and students with resources, workshops, museum tours, and direct interaction with artists to support the New York Department of Education’s Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education (CR-S) framework. Dedicated Teaching Artists work with teachers to create lesson plans that highlight marginalized voices and support the diverse racial, linguistic, and cultural identities of students within NYC’s public schools.
