About The Position

The purpose of this position is to provide a safe and enriching environment for youth program participants and supervise Youth Program Leaders. This role involves working with Youth Program Leaders to ensure a safe, structured, and well-rounded full-day program. Responsibilities include leading various activities, supervising participants, attending field trips, and managing parent communication and administrative tasks. The supervisor also oversees the Youth Program Leaders and ensures safety protocols are followed.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and understand written instructions.
  • Ability to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines.
  • Knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency.
  • Functioning as a lead worker performing essentially the same work as those directed.
  • Overseeing work quality, training, instructing, and scheduling work.
  • Providing advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies.
  • Considering different points of view to reach agreement.
  • Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas.
  • Receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results.
  • Some opportunity for discretion when making selections among a few, easily identifiable choices.
  • Assignment usually reviewed upon completion.
  • Use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment.
  • Intermediate ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias.
  • Basic ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations.
  • Intermediate ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (implied by safety duties).

Responsibilities

  • Works with Youth Program Leaders to provide a safe, structured, well-rounded full-day program for participants.
  • Leads sports and fine arts activities.
  • Supervises participants while swimming.
  • Attends field trips.
  • Leads community service projects.
  • Leads team building exercises.
  • Maintains parent communication, including handling sign-out sheets, discussing behavior concerns, reminding parents about payments and program information, and sitting in on parent conferences.
  • Supervises Youth Program Leaders, including redirecting them as needed, relaying information from Recreation Programmers, and attending Program Supervisor meetings.
  • Performs administrative functions, including completing attendance, incident, and behavior reports, and completing late pick-up forms.
  • Ensures and performs safety regarding facility use and programs, including CPR and First Aid, fire drills, site checks, administering participant medication as directed, and overseeing participant sign-out.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned.
