About The Position

The Salvation Army – Henderson Corps is seeking a Youth Program Coordinator. This is a Non-Exempt, PT position. The mission of The Salvation Army is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. This role involves developing, organizing, and leading various youth programs, including Salvation Army Youth Programs (SAY) and After School programs associated with local schools. Responsibilities include implementing fellowship, worship, Biblical teaching, discipleship, and evangelism for young people, as well as coordinating seasonal programs like Vacation Bible School and Camp. The coordinator will also manage logistical aspects such as transportation, budgets, and petty cash, and will be responsible for developing yearly and monthly calendars for activities and events. For the After School Program, duties include coordinating food, tutoring, and other activities, recruiting volunteers, and liaising with school leaders, teachers, and parents. This position requires adherence to confidentiality and is subject to grant funding.

Requirements

  • Two years’ experience working with children in a Corps/Church setting and/or a 2 year college degree in Youth Ministries or Christian Education.
  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes is required.
  • Must be able to compose and type letters, e-mails, and other communications as needed.
  • Must be able to operate office equipment such as FAX machine, copy machine, printers, laminating machine, etc.
  • Must be able and willing to take direction, both oral and written, and follow through with minimal supervision.
  • Must be a “self-starter”.
  • Must be well organized, and able to maintain files and materials.
  • A demonstrated ability to relate to and work with young persons from diverse backgrounds, and the ability to communicate effectively with parents, volunteers, and other professionals such as school Principals, school teachers, etc.
  • Valid Nevada Drivers’ license and insured transportation.
  • Certification by and participating in The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program.
  • Current First Aid & CPR certification. If not current, certification must be obtained within two months of hire.
  • Have a philosophy of education and child development that is consistent with that of The Salvation Army.
  • Exhibit a sincere concern for youth of all ages to be nurtured and guided in The Salvation Army oriented Christian standards and lifestyle.
  • Must receive training and certification for The Salvation Army Protect the Mission and Child Safety policies, and ensure compliance in all programs and facilities.

  • Required to pass a back ground check.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, organize, and lead SAY programs that effectively implement fellowship, worship, Biblical teaching and principles, discipleship, and evangelism for young people.
  • Develop, organize, recruit leaders and volunteers, and lead all TSA programs such as Sunbeams, Girl Guards, Adventure Corps, Corps Cadets, Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets, and Community Care Ministries.
  • Develop, organize, and lead seasonal programs such as Vacation Bible School, Camp, and Christmas program as they apply to youth.
  • Plan, develop, organize, and coordinate with Corps Officers logistical items such as transportation, budgets, property security, and management of petty cash, fees, donations, etc.
  • Develop a yearly calendar that identifies scheduled activities, events, and program themes.
  • Develop and coordinate the after school program, including food (meals and snacks), tutoring programs, and other activities.
  • Recruit, organize, and develop volunteers and leaders.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the program with local school leaders and teachers including tutoring, transportation, and scheduling.
  • Coordinate the attendance with parents.
  • Develop a monthly and semester calendar for events and program, and a second food menu.
  • Link the participants in this program to seasonal and SAY programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Corps Officers.
