About The Position

The Boston Housing Authority (BHA) is seeking a Youth Program Assistant to support their mission of building and supporting healthy, sustainable communities. This role will focus on empowering young residents and community members aged 14-21 by providing opportunities for education, workforce development, and work skills. The program aims to create pathways for the future of youth through various activities and workshops, in collaboration with other city departments and local organizations. The BHA is committed to providing stable and supportive housing for low- and moderate-income families in Boston, and this role contributes to improving the quality of life and encouraging self-sufficiency within these communities.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in high school, post-secondary education, or a GED/HiSET/Alternative Education program.
  • Must be a current resident of the city of Boston.
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must be organized, punctual, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to BHA public housing or Section 8 tenants.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute activities for younger children, including arts and crafts, recreation and sports, and computer club.
  • Ensure children are following behavior expectations and remain safe during activities.
  • Support the planning and execution of youth events such as movie nights, cookouts, and field days.
  • Participate in civic engagement and city beautification activities as part of the Boston City Youth Corps.
  • Conduct community outreach through flyering, phone calls, and door knocking to inform young people and parents about center activities and events.
  • Perform cleaning and organizing of the center to ensure it is ready for programming.
