A Youth Mentor works with a group of three children at a time on a 22-acre campus in the LC Valley. Mentors support children as they receive treatment and work toward goals specific to their needs. The children in care have experienced serious trauma and may have intense behavioral issues; they receive therapeutic treatment plans created and implemented by the care teams. Youth Mentors participate in outdoor activities such as basketball, volleyball, hiking, fishing, and rollerblading, as well as movies, games, drawing, and other hobbies the children enjoy. They serve as role models, meet children where they are in their phase of treatment, build quality relationships, and set healthy boundaries using a Trauma Informed Care approach. Youth Mentors are critical to the children’s successful treatment process.
