About The Position

Under the supervision of the Aspira Program Coordinator, the Aspira Mentor will support middle school students through academic, social, and emotional development. This school-based role provides 1:1 and small group mentoring, academic support, and workshops that help students improve attendance, grades, and personal growth. Mentors act as positive role models, working closely with students, families, and school staff to ensure a smooth transition from secondary education to primary education.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience engaging in community youth-based services.
  • Valid driver's license, ability to provide own transportation and travel to various locations.
  • Experience collaborating with community human services providers.
  • Must be able to perform all functions with minimal supervision.
  • Analytical Skills - Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve a problem.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in youth engagement OR public safety OR violence reduction OR community development preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, not required.

Responsibilities

  • Engage youth and provide weekly mentoring sessions and deliver ASPIRA’s social-emotional curriculum.
  • Provide connections to positive, social events and activities, in collaboration with other state funded partners and collaborators.
  • Facilitate workshops on leadership, career readiness, and goal setting.
  • Support connecting youth and families to caring community members for the purposes of creating and maintaining healthy and rewarding relationships intergenerationally within the community.
  • Train in restorative practices and provide restorative services to community, collaborating with existing restorative teams within Ibero when appropriate.
  • Track attendance and progress; set S.M.A.R.T. goals with students.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians and collaborate with school staff.
  • Participate in family events, field trips, and student incentive activities.
  • Create events and engagement opportunities for the youth and families.
  • Meet with students a minimum of four times a month to achieve metric goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
