About The Position

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is seeking a Youth Life Skills Coach to provide direct skills coaching and teaching to children in the Treatment Foster Care Program. This role involves implementing interventions defined by the child’s treatment plan within an evidenced-based, trauma-informed model of treatment foster care for children and their families. The position requires providing one-on-one behavioral coaching, working collaboratively with team members to identify and teach skills, and accompanying/supervising children on community activities for mentoring and recreation. The coach will also participate in clinical meetings, trainings, and complete Medicaid-compliant progress notes and other required reports. Professional and positive behavior, integrity, and respectful treatment of clients, families, and colleagues are essential. This is a full-time position.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, comprehensible manner, both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to provide services using a team approach.
• Good organizational, presentation and pc/computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) along with other related software.
• Valid driver’s license, in good standing for the state of residency required.
• Valid IL statutory minimum liability insurance coverage, bodily injury and property damage required.
• Access to reliable transportation required.
• Background check clearance, both criminal and CANTS required.

Nice To Haves

• Associates degree or completion of some college credits preferred.
• Experience completing notes in Electronic Health Record (EHR) system preferred.
• Experience motivating children, their families and foster parents to participate in a highly detailed treatment model preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one behavioral coaching and teaching to children in the Treatment Foster Care Program.
• Work closely with other team members to identify the specific skill(s) the child needs to work on, including the method(s) for teaching the skill, as well as monitoring and rewarding the child’s progress.
• Work collaboratively with team members to provide prosocial skill development for the child through instruction, practice and coaching.
• Accompany and supervise child on activities and outings in the community to provide mentoring and recreation focusing on specific behaviors and skills the child needs to learn and practice, applying principles for social learning theory, developmental psychology and trauma-informed care.
• Participate in weekly clinical meeting and trainings, as required.
• Complete and submit Medicaid compliant progress notes within required timeframes and any other agency required reports related to service provision.
• Participate in the supervisory process for guidance, direction, support, and approval of decision-making, assessment, service planning and intervention.
• Presents cases for staffing or participate in staffing as needed, including weekly team meetings.
• Demonstrate professional, positive behavior and carry out responsibilities with integrity, treating clients, families, other LSSI workforce members, and collaborative organizations and/or individual in a dignified, respectful, honest and fair manner.
