About The Position

The Northville District Library seeks an enthusiastic, creative and innovative Youth Services Librarian to join our community-focused team. In this role, you will champion early literacy, foster a love of reading, and connect with youth of all ages through engaging outreach and dynamic library programming. This is a part-time position (24 hours per week) and is a union position.

Requirements

Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution.
Strong public service orientation and a deep commitment to serving youth patrons.
Familiarity with both current and classic youth literature, pop culture, and social trends.
Ability to create new services and procedures incorporating new theories.
Proficiency in MS Office, online research databases, social media, and emerging library technologies.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and critical thinking skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited program (with at least one year completed) will be considered.

Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and host engaging youth programs, including story times, Summer Reading, STEAM activities, crafts, and hosting performers.
Participate in community and school outreach.
Develop and maintain youth collection areas by reviewing, evaluating, selecting, purchasing, and withdrawing materials.
Provide reference, readers' advisory, and information literacy support to users of all ages at the Information and Reference Desks.
Serve as the Librarian-in-Charge of the building when assigned.
Recommend changes to services based on emerging library trends.
