Youth Librarian I
About The Position
Bloomfield Public Library seeks a community-focused, dynamic, and technically savvy librarian who can communicate professionally with a diverse public. The role requires excellent customer service, including identifying and interpreting users’ needs and providing reference and readers’ advisory. A joy of reading is essential. Preferred experience includes collection development, marketing, programming, and community outreach, though the library offers opportunities for professional growth to dedicated and talented candidates with less experience. Candidates must have a Master of Library Science (MLS) degree, or an equivalent degree, from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association (ALA), and at least one year of youth librarian experience within the past five years. Candidates are rated on education, experience, and skills related to the position. Additional selection steps may include computer skills testing, written subject-matter tests, oral interviews, or a combination of these.
Requirements
- Master of Library Science (MLS) degree, or equivalent, from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association (ALA).
- At least one year of youth librarian experience within the past five years.
- Ability to communicate professionally with a diverse public.
