About The Position

The Rick Hansen Foundation (RHF) is seeking applications for volunteers aged 13-30 to join the Youth Leadership Committee. This committee's purpose is to support the professional growth and advancement of youth through a voluntary mentorship program. Professional growth includes developing soft skills such as public speaking, record keeping, time management, conflict resolution, and emotional intelligence. The term for committee members is one year, from September 2026 to August 2027. Members are expected to commit to one meeting per month, generally held on the third Saturday of the month at noon Pacific Time, from September through June.

Requirements

• Must be aged 13-30 inclusive
• Must currently reside in Canada
• Demonstrate an ability to constructively participate in a fair and open-minded manner
• Demonstrate an ability to consider a broad range of views that reflect the diversity of their local community(ies)
• Possess a good knowledge and understanding of issues that are relevant to youth with disabilities
• Demonstrate an ability to facilitate communication and engagement with youth
• Show a willingness to celebrate the success and achievements of youth with disabilities
• Possess the capacity to commit for the required duration
• Agree to be subject to a criminal background check

Nice To Haves

• Majority (over 50%) of Committee members must be youth living with a physical disability.

Responsibilities

• Attend an intake summary meeting
• Attend regular meetings, and contribute to the agenda and meeting discussion
• Review and provide feedback on meeting minutes, work plan and performance reports
• Complete the annual reporting survey
• Ensure two members are present for the annual report presentation
• Protect the privacy of individuals with respect to personal information
• Take proactive steps to mitigate real or perceived conflicts of interest
