About The Position

The Youth Leader - ASES is mandated to take all steps necessary to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of the children enrolled in the program. This role involves supervising day-to-day activities, providing academic assistance, developing clubs and curriculum, and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must have 48 completed college units OR pass the District’s Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (a basic math and literacy exam)
  • Must have a minimum of 6 months experience (paid or unpaid) in an after school program, group child care setting, or babysitting elementary aged children
  • Demonstrated ability in sports, special interests, hobbies, and/or arts & crafts
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certification
  • Valid TB results (required every 4 years)
  • Must receive Fingerprint Clearance
  • Ability to actively supervise and roam designated areas at all times to ensure a direct line of sight of all students
  • Standing, walking, and moving for extended periods of time throughout the shift
  • Ability to promptly follow and safely return a student to their designated area in case of elopement
  • Ability to operate a vehicle
  • High energy needed with the ability to balance multiple high-stress tasks
  • Ability to work in noisy and outdoor environments
  • Ability to travel throughout the county with the flexibility required to meet job duties
  • Frequent repetitive hand use and simple grasping, i.e., desk and computer functions
  • Ability to sit for prolonged period
  • Ability to lift and carry up to twenty pounds
  • Ability to operate a computer

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean and orderly designated school space
  • Ensure the safety, security, and well-being of students enrolled in the program
  • Responsible for picking-up, maintaining and returning all devices being used during distance learning and remote working
  • Must be able to work at least three afternoon shifts per week, class schedule will be required each semester for any scheduling conflicts due to school reasons, and schedule must be pre-approved by supervisor
  • Supervise day-to-day activities of the program while maintaining ratios within contract
  • Redirect inappropriate child behavior, provide disciplinary action, and notify Site Director - ASES when necessary
  • Provide academic homework assistance
  • Develop clubs, activities, and curriculum
  • Work effectively across all program service areas for Agency wide effective communication and operations
  • Under HR’s direction will participate in preparing and reviewing in any legal related matters
  • Develop and maintain positive, professional relationships with school site, parents, children, and Harmonium staff
  • Communicate with parents regarding their child on a daily basis
