About The Position

The City and Borough of Juneau's Parks & Recreation Zach Gordon Youth Center is hiring a Youth Housing Navigator. This role involves providing outreach and support to youth who are homeless or in need of services, acting as an advocate to help them navigate social services, housing, mental health, and other supports. The position will assist teens who may be on their own, as well as younger youth and their families, in accessing resources like food security, rental assistance, and transportation. Collaboration with partner organizations is key, including AWARE, The Glory Hall, Family Promise, St. Vincent de Paul, the BRH Navigators program, Front Street Clinic, and JAMHI. A significant part of the role involves working closely with landlords and the Tlingit Haida Regional Housing Authority to enroll youth in their Rapid Rehousing rental assistance program. Responsibilities also include data entry into the Alaska Homeless Management Information System (AKHMIS), completing paperwork, assisting youth with forms (enrollment, leases, job applications), and providing facility supervision during special events in the absence of the Program Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
  • Any combination of experience or post-secondary education totaling one (1) year that includes volunteering or working with youth, education, job readiness, employment skills, caregiving or achieving healthy behaviors and developing healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Valid Driver’s License by time of appointment and for continued employment.
  • First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of appointment.
  • Must submit fingerprints for a National Criminal History report through the FBI.
  • Must document education and/or work experience in the application to meet minimum qualifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Post-secondary education from an accredited institution in the social, behavior, or health sciences, law, or a closely related field may substitute for the required experience on the basis of 3 semester hours (4 quarter hours) for one (1) month of experience (36 semester hours or 48 quarter hours is equivalent to 1 year).

Responsibilities

  • Acting as an advocate for youth in navigating social services, housing, mental health, and other supports.
  • Assisting teens who may be on their own, and younger youth and their families, in addressing needs and accessing services such as food security, rental assistance, or transportation assistance.
  • Working closely with partner organizations to accept and make referrals.
  • Working particularly closely with landlords and Tlingit Haida Regional Housing Authority to enroll youth in their Rapid Rehousing rental assistance program.
  • Responsible for data entry into the Alaska Homeless Management Information System (AKHMIS) and for completing associated paperwork.
  • Assisting youth filling out necessary documents such as enrollment forms, leases, job applications and more.
  • Assisting with special events and providing facility supervision in the absence of the Program Coordinator.
