About The Position

Sports will include flag football. This role requires knowledge of city and department rules and regulations, as well as specific sports program rules and interpretations. The official must be able to enforce rules firmly, tactfully, and impartially, control large groups, and communicate effectively with participants. They will be responsible for ensuring a safe environment, monitoring participants and their attire, and completing necessary reports. The role also involves preparing program activities, organizing equipment, and providing excellent customer service.

Requirements

Thorough knowledge of city and department rules and regulations
Knowledge of specific sports program rules and interpretations
Demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job
Ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially
Ability to control large groups of people
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to remain current on rules of specific sports
Ability to communicate effectively to the participants
Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine proper course of action to be taken
Ability to work with little or no supervision, as necessary
Ability to analyze and assess facility, equipment and weather safety hazards
Ability to write incident and accident reports
Ability to learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the public
Some prior working experience, preferably experience with playing, officiating, or instructing sports programs
Must hold current CPR/AED certification or be able to obtain within 30 days
Must pass basic sports understanding test

Responsibilities

Enforce rules and regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially
Analyze situations and facts quickly and objectively to determine the proper course of action to be taken
Monitors participants and their ability to participate
Monitors attire to properly perform, (i.e., shoes, equipment, etc.) if applicable
Provides a safe environment for all participants
Enforces all general building policies if applicable
Completes any necessary reports and forms (i.e., Accident/Incident Reports, Attendance Records, Supply Requests, etc.)
Responsible for preparation of program activities
Organizing relative equipment
May be required to set up and break-down materials used for instruction
Attend scheduled meetings as required
Informs supervisor of any customer, equipment, or facility needs
Ensures that the goals and objectives of activity are met
Provides excellent customer service, including interacting with participants to answer questions or resolve problems
Performs related duties as required
