About The Position

The Youth Flag Football Official is responsible for officiating youth flag football games in a safe, fair, and positive manner. This position promotes sportsmanship, player development, and a fun recreational experience while enforcing league rules and maintaining control of the game environment. Officials serve as representatives of the Parks & Recreation Department and are expected to demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, and strong communication skills when interacting with players, coaches, parents, and spectators.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of football rules, game mechanics, and officiating principles.
  • Ability to make quick decisions and remain composed under pressure.
  • Ability to effectively manage conflicts and maintain control of game situations.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment.
  • Ability to create a positive environment focused on learning, participation, and sportsmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Officiate youth flag football games in accordance with league rules and established program standards.
  • Enforce game rules consistently and fairly while maintaining the integrity of competition.
  • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and positive participant behavior throughout all games.
  • Communicate rule interpretations, penalties, and game decisions clearly and professionally.
  • Maintain control of the playing environment and address unsportsmanlike conduct when necessary.
  • Ensure participant safety by monitoring game conditions and responding appropriately to incidents or concerns.
  • Serve as a positive role model for youth participants and contribute to an enjoyable recreational experience.
  • Work cooperatively with coaches, players, spectators, and Parks & Recreation staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
