About The Position

The Youth & Family Programs Summer Internship at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art offers hands-on experience designing, supporting, and evaluating educational programs for youth, families, teens, and multigenerational audiences. The intern supports programs that activate museum galleries, studios, and outdoor spaces and learns how large-scale public programs are planned and delivered in a museum setting. Targeted areas include program production and facilitation, content development, and administrative tasks as assigned. The intern may assist with Family Days and multigenerational public programs; school break programming; youth and teen camps, classes, and workshops; teen nights and teen-focused engagement programs; nature-based and outdoor learning programs; exhibition openings; and museum-wide community events. Duties may include preparing programs, providing on-site support, engaging guests, organizing materials, setting up and breaking down spaces, and observing teaching strategies and visitor interactions. The internship is based on-site in Bentonville, Arkansas. The schedule is flexible and arranged with the direct supervisor, with availability Wednesday through Sunday considered a priority. Some evening and weekend hours are required. Interns may work up to 40 hours per week. The anticipated internship dates are May 31, 2027, through July 23, 2027. Compensation is $12.00 per hour for high school interns, $13.00 for undergraduate students, and $14.00 for graduate students. Bachelor’s or master’s hours require enrollment in an accredited program or graduation from one within the past three years; students must provide a current schedule or official transcript. Applicants must submit a cover letter and resume. The cover letter must address the applicant’s interest in designing or supporting programs that spark curiosity in young audiences; confidence and challenges related to preparing materials, coordinating with partners, and interacting with the public; and any experience with educational programming, art instruction, or working with youth, including how that experience would apply to the role. Housing is not guaranteed and depends on funding availability. Internship positions that include housing will state so in the title and description. If housing is available, consideration is limited to students whose primary residence is more than 150 miles or three hours from either Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art or the Momentary. Any housing or relocation assistance is taxable income and reported on the intern’s Form W-2. The work includes prolonged use of a computer and telephone, bending and stretching, and lifting and transporting at least 10 pounds. The intern must have sufficient eye/hand coordination and visual acuity to review written materials. Work is performed on-site in a professional, climate-controlled museum office with standard office equipment and an open setting near colleagues. Noise is typically low to moderate. The role involves regular professional interaction with the public and internal team members, and some local travel.
