About The Position

The Office of Juvenile Justice is seeking an experienced, mission-driven Youth Facilities Deputy Director – Statewide to support leadership, operational consistency, and youth-centered practices across secure-care facilities. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who excels in supervision, communication, and maintaining safe, structured environments for youth and staff. As a statewide deputy director, you’ll help guide operational standards, reinforce safety and compliance expectations, and support therapeutic programming and staff development. You’ll work closely with facility leadership, contribute to strategic initiatives, and help ensure that daily operations align with OJJ’s mission and statewide priorities. Requirements

• Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been at the supervisory level or above:
• Eight years of experience in juvenile probation and parole, social services, counseling, or in a residential, correctional, behavioral health, or group home setting; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus five years of experience in juvenile probation and parole, social services, counseling, or in a residential, correctional, behavioral health, or group home setting; OR A bachelor's degree plus five years of experience in juvenile probation and parole, social services, counseling, or in a residential, correctional, behavioral health, or group home setting; OR An advanced degree in criminal justice or a social sciences field, counseling, education, public administration, or business administration plus four years of experience in juvenile probation and parole, social services, counseling, or in a residential, correctional, behavioral health, or group home setting.
• Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
• Must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15:587.1 (c)
• Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver's License
• Must clear a background check

Responsibilities

• Provides statewide operational leadership — supports oversight of secure-care operations, youth services, and staff performance across multiple facilities.
• Ensures safety, security, and compliance — reinforces adherence to agency policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Supports therapeutic and rehabilitative programming — collaborates with clinical, educational, and youth-care teams to promote consistent, youth-centered practices statewide.
• Leads personnel management — provides guidance to supervisors, assists with performance evaluations, and supports staff development and training.
• Oversees operational readiness — assists with emergency response coordination, incident review, and quality assurance activities across facilities.
• Implements policy and strategic initiatives — supports statewide policy development, operational planning, and implementation of agency priorities.
• Represents leadership in cross-functional coordination — collaborates with internal divisions and external partners to support statewide youth facility operations.
