About The Position

The Youth Engagement Specialist recruits and screens applicants for teen intern positions, coordinates the placement and onboarding processes, and serves as a resource to active teen interns, maintaining consistent communication and mentoring to foster positive relationships with youth participating in these programs. The Specialist oversees the implementation and documentation of programs, collaborates across relevant departments, communicates with funders, and manages relationships with key partners. This is a full-time regular position offering a comprehensive benefits package. The schedule will be Sundays – Thursdays from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm EST with the option for a hybrid schedule, working up to two days remotely per week. Onsite days will be Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a third onsite that will rotate between Sundays and Mondays. Remote days are only available for residents of MA, RI, NH, ME, NY and VT. This position will require occasional work on nights and Saturdays. Candidates must have a valid driving license and be able to transport themselves to recruitment events periodically.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in non-profit administration, psychology, sociology, childhood development, education, environmental science, or a similar field required.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience supervising and/or supporting professional development and learning opportunities to high school-age youth and/or young adults.
  • Experience managing a high volume of incoming and outgoing communication in a Human Resources or Customer Service setting is required.
  • Experience working with teens and adults from diverse racial/socioeconomic populations required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with a broad range of people in a customer service-related capacity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized with administrative experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills and an ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Committed to working in and promoting a collaborative and inclusive organizational culture.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in screening, interviewing, and/or onboarding diverse talent preferred.
  • Experience presenting at community events and/or internship fairs preferred.
  • Experience with MS Office, Mail Chimp, Form Assembly, and online databases such as Salesforce and applicant tracking systems preferred.
  • Experience tracking and maintaining high volumes of data in a database system preferred.
  • Proven success implementing coursework, lectures, trainings, meetings, or programs for youth audiences preferred.
  • Experience writing in a business setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the posting and communication of teen intern positions, and networking with partners with the goal of attracting a diverse pool of applicants for each search cycle.
  • Acts as the primary recruiter at internship fairs and other relevant events.
  • Maintains a high level of knowledge about departments and jobs at the Aquarium.
  • Coordinates the receipt, processing, and prescreening of 200+ internship applications for summer and academic year internships.
  • Serves as liaison to candidates, communicating status updates regularly.
  • Identifies appropriate candidates for open intern positions and presents them to the departments for consideration.
  • Manages the internship application process in Salesforce (an automated, online system) to increase internal efficiencies and the intern experience.
  • Conducts orientation and onboarding for interns and completes the onboarding process, collecting all necessary documentation.
  • Creates and distributes identification cards and uniforms.
  • Maintains all internship records, schedules interns, and maintains service hours, benefits information, and detailed communications records within the Salesforce database.
  • Aides in the design and delivery of professional development opportunities for teen interns.
  • Coordinates and facilitates training regularly.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for the City of Boston, the City of Cambridge, and other teen internship funders to ensure that contractual obligations are fulfilled on both sides; identifies new opportunities for funding teen internships.
  • Pursues and manages external partnerships, both locally and nationally, for youth development work, civic engagement, and skill building to share best practices.
  • Plans, attends, and chaperones events such as Youth Climate Summits, Environmental Stewardship Trips, collaborations, and social gatherings, and coordinates all logistics and requirements for special events and programming.
  • Facilitates activities by the Youth Advisory Council and ensures youth engagement at the NEAq and in NEAq's decision-making toward achieving its mission.
  • Aides in the planning and implementation of community-building events.
  • Contributes to ongoing communications, newsletters, and social media efforts relating to the programs.
  • Responds to a high volume of telephone and email inquiries from potential interns in a timely fashion and demonstrates superior customer service.
  • Performs other position-related duties as assigned.
