About The Position

The Town of Milton is seeking a part-time Youth Engagement Leader to deliver quality services, youth programs, and initiatives for youth aged 13-18. This role involves working at the Youth Centre, including drop-in programming and outreach in both urban and rural Milton. Successful candidates must be available for variable hours, primarily between 3:00 pm and 8:30 pm, with potential for weekend work. The position operates indoors and outdoors.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years related experience working with and planning activities for youth
  • Skilled in relating to and interacting with youth aged 13 – 18 years
  • Excellent with problem-solving and the ability to work well independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to ensure a high level of confidentiality is maintained
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C required
  • Access to transportation to travel between work locations in a timely manner is required as the successful candidate may be required to travel between sites
  • Requires the incumbent to submit a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening upon employment at their own expense

Nice To Haves

  • Working towards the completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma in: Education, Child & Youth Care, Social Work, Youth Services, Recreation & Leisure program or related field is considered an asset
  • Safe Food Handling Certification preferred
  • Mental Health First Aid and/or Behaviour Management Systems Training (BMS) or equivalent, and/or ASIST – Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training or equivalent is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the opening and closing of the Youth Space
  • Develop and promote schedules for youth programs including Youth Centre drop-in activities, food security, gym activities, and organized programs (i.e. yoga)
  • Supervise and engage youth at all times and create meaningful connections
  • Incorporate and model positive youth development through tools and relationship building within program delivery
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and handle sensitive situations with mature judgement
  • Perform cleaning and general space maintenance functions as required
  • Actively work to prevent accidents, enforce rules, and educate youth about safe behaviour in program areas while adhering to all established departmental safety standards and practices
  • Responsible for contacting emergency services and providing supports or referrals to youth social services when appropriate
  • Collect statistical data relating to the number of youth who enter the Youth Space, the resources they use, and document which, if any, outreach/community support programs and services were suggested to the youth
