About The Position

Mamaweswen, The North Shore Tribal Council invites applications for the position of Youth Education Worker. The Youth Education Worker is responsible for supporting First Nations youth in achieving positive educational and employment outcomes. This role delivers programming under the Skills Link Program, connecting youth with mentorship, academic support, career guidance, and work placement opportunities. This person works closely with schools, community partners, and member First Nations to strengthen the connections that help youth succeed.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in social work, child and youth care, education, community development, or a related field
  • 2 years of experience working with youth in a social services, education, or community-based setting
  • Experience working with First Nations communities
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Check or willingness to obtain one
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the First Nation and Skills Link Program or similar youth employment programs is an asset
  • First Aid and CPR certification is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Providing one-on-one and group-based guidance, mentorship, and educational support to First Nations youth
  • Assisting youth in setting personal, educational, and career goals
  • Connecting youth with relevant community resources, social services, and cultural supports
  • Building and maintaining trusting relationships with youth
  • Supporting youth in improving educational outcomes through tutoring, homework assistance, and academic planning
  • Promoting school engagement and attendance among youth participants
  • Strengthening connections between youth, families, schools, and community resources
  • Collaborating with school staff and educators to identify and address barriers to learning
  • Referring youth to additional support services such as counselling, health services, or financial assistance as needed
  • Supporting youth in exploring career options and post-secondary education pathways
  • Engaging support to explore working with the TRADES
  • Coordinating from time to time and attending job fairs, career workshops, and employment-related events with ISETP staff
  • Coordinating employability skills training, including resume writing, interview preparation, and workplace readiness with ISETP staff
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of youth participation, and outcomes, reports on program activities
  • Participating in team meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities
  • Proposal writing for additional funding for youth initiatives.
  • Creation of resources for engagement
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
