About The Position

The Youth Education Support (YES) Project at the English Language Center (ELC) aims to support the cognitive, social, and emotional development of children aged 18 months and up, while their parents attend English classes. The project focuses on ensuring school readiness, strengthening parental engagement, and building partnerships with early learning programs. The Youth Education Support Teacher will create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment, develop and implement age-appropriate, culturally relevant curriculum, and align child enrollment with adult English class enrollment. This role is crucial for supporting children from diverse immigrant and refugee backgrounds.

Requirements

  • Experience in early childhood education and familiarity with current trends in education.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain records, and oversee classroom operations efficiently.
  • Ability to be flexible in a classroom environment.
  • General computer skills required.
  • Willingness to attend ongoing trainings on best practices in ECE, trauma-informed care and refugee services.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified (can be obtained after hiring).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation and be able to provide proof of state-required liability insurance coverage.
  • Completion of a criminal history background check post offer of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, linguistics, English, early childhood development or a related field OR 3+ years experience working in childcare and/or early education.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and facilitate age-appropriate, culturally relevant lessons for children 18 months and older.
  • Collaborate with YES Project Manager to design curriculum that supports early learning, social-emotional development, and emerging language skills.
  • Maintain lesson plans and track progress.
  • Enroll children in alignment with adult English class enrollment.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and enrollment records.
  • Ensure a safe, nurturing, organized, and supportive environment for all children.
  • Implement trauma-informed practices and respond to children’s needs with empathy and care.
  • Ensure compliance with ELC and Jannus policies and safety standards.
  • Communicate regularly with the YES Project Manager regarding needs, challenges, and successes.
  • Work with volunteers to support learning.
  • Communicate regularly with ELC staff and adult students.
  • Assist with data collection, reporting, and evaluation to support program growth and funding needs.
  • Support the academic and social preparation of children for formal schooling (preschool or kindergarten).
  • Support the academic and social success of children currently enrolled in formal schooling.
  • Assist in providing parent education on U.S. school systems, cultural integration, parenting classes, community collaboration, teacher trainings, and peer-support groups.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to ensure a positive, enriching experience for children and families.
