About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated Youth Development Specialist for Child Welfare to join our team. This role involves assessing, supporting, and advocating for families and children within the child welfare system. The ideal candidate will have a passion for improving the lives of families and children, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in the care, development, or personal guidance of adolescents or adults in a human services or social services program, law enforcement or correctional program, or an educational, community or military organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social sciences, counseling, restorative or juvenile justice, behavioral sciences, criminal justice or a closely related field; OR An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity and compassion in working with families and children experiencing challenging circumstances.
  • Ability to conduct thorough assessments and analyze complex situations to determine appropriate interventions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex issues and challenges in child welfare.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and with external partners.
  • Knowledge of cultural differences and their impact on child welfare practice.
  • Proficient knowledge in using computer systems and software for documentation and communication purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts thorough assessments of families and children to determine safety, risk factors, and service needs.
  • Develops comprehensive and individualized case plans in collaboration with families, children, and other stakeholders.
  • Provides direct support and guidance to families and children to promote safety, stability, and well-being.
  • Coordinates services with community partners, including schools, healthcare providers, and social service agencies, to meet the needs of families and children.
  • Advocates for the best interests of children in court hearings, meetings with stakeholders, and other settings.
  • Monitors progress and compliance with case plans, adjusting as necessary.
  • Provides crisis intervention and support during emergencies or critical incidents involving families and children.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of case activities, assessments, and interventions.
  • Educates families on child development, parenting skills, and available resources to support their children’s well-being.
  • Builds positive and effective relationships with children, families, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and agency policies related to child welfare.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in child welfare practice.
