Youth Development Director- Seasonal for Camp (June thru Aug.) Dover YMCA Family Location
About The Position
The Dover YMCA Family Location is seeking a Youth Development Director for the seasonal period from June through August. This role is crucial in ensuring that every youth and teen served is on a path to success, improving the health and wellbeing of individuals and families, and uniting communities through service. The position involves direct supervision of Unit Directors, development of communication materials for families, and administrative leadership in the absence of the Senior Director. A key responsibility is ensuring the safety and healthy development of children aged 5 through 15 years, overseeing daily care, and supporting their social and emotional needs.
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Have School-Age or ECE Administrator credential through DEEDs (OCCL) or be able to obtain within 10 business days.
- Previous Camp experience, or experience working with children of varied ages.
- Knowledge and experience supervising staff and leading children.
- Successful completion of criminal history, child abuse & adult abuse background check required by the State of Delaware
- Become First Aid/CPR certified prior to start of camp.

Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision, guidance, and ongoing support to Unit Directors, including coaching, performance feedback, and problem-solving assistance.
- Assist to develop, write, and distribute weekly newsletters to keep families informed of program activities, updates, and announcements.
- Assume responsibility for administrative leadership and decision-making in the absence of the Senior Director, ensuring continuity of operations.
- Supervise children, groups, staff and all activities to ensure safe, healthy developmentally appropriate childcare practices.
- Oversee daily care for campers inclusive of feedings and supporting social and emotional needs; children ages 5 through 15 years.
