About The Position

The Youth Development Coordinator provides direct leadership, training, coaching, and accountability for Upper Room KC’s Youth Development Leaders (YDLs) across After School and Summer programming. This position ensures YDLs are properly onboarded, prepared, supported, monitored, and held accountable for providing safe, engaging, and high-quality experiences for students.

Requirements

  • Experience working with school-age youth in after-school, summer, education, recreation, or community-based programs.
  • Experience supervising, coaching, training, or leading staff.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to give direct, constructive feedback and hold staff accountable.
  • Knowledge of positive youth development and behavior-support practices.
  • Ability to work afternoons and other program hours as needed.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel between program sites.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, screen, onboard, and support YDL staff.
  • Coordinate and deliver YDL orientation, training, and ongoing professional development.
  • Visit program sites regularly to observe YDL performance and student engagement.
  • Coach YDLs individually and as a team; provide timely feedback and follow-up.
  • Monitor attendance, punctuality, professionalism, reliability, and adherence to program expectations.
  • Maintain documentation of observations, coaching, training completion, and performance concerns.
  • Work closely with Site Directors to ensure consistent supervision and expectations across locations.
  • Support YDLs with behavior management, student engagement, group facilitation, transitions, and daily program routines.
  • Identify high-performing staff for recognition and future leadership opportunities.
  • Partner with program leadership and HR on staffing needs, corrective action, and retention.
  • Help develop consistent YDL activities, behavior-support practices, and operating standards for After School and Summer programs.
