About The Position

This is a temporary full-time position assisting in the summer operations and programs of the children and youth department at Guelph Citadel. The role involves leadership development, building skills in children and youth programming, and aiding the department with administration, social media development, and volunteer management. The Salvation Army has served people in need for over 130 years in Canada and Bermuda, helping over 2 million people annually with necessities and support for various challenges. Requirements

  • Completion of secondary school.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license.
  • Original copy of driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army.
  • Some prior related experience in children and/or youth programming.
  • Excellent written, verbal and computer skills.
  • Use of computers (Microsoft Suite).
  • Must be aged 15 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Ability to maintain immigration status to legally remain and work in Canada, supported by valid immigration documents.
  • Ability to lift/move 25 lbs.
  • Frequent twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, lifting, and kneeling.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Standard First Aid and CPR is an asset but not required.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Youth/Children’s Ministries in the coordination of family programs and events.
  • Coordinate, recruit, and train volunteers for children/youth programming and community events.
  • Reach out and engage marginalized communities and develop youth and/or family specific neighborhood events.
  • Participate in community events and programming with a focus on fostering relationships with participants.
  • Assist in preparing monthly curriculum packages and coordinate delivery.
  • Aid in the operations of the Loft Children’s Library, increasing local participation through community events.
  • Participate in the development, preparation, and organization of Fall children and youth events and programming.
  • Record lessons learned and propose ongoing strategies for program improvement and community engagement.
  • Engage in leadership development with the Director of Youth/Children’s Ministries.
  • Manage weekly communications to existing and potential children and youth program participants.
  • Maintain active social media presence.
  • Maintain attendance and statistical records.
  • Perform administrative duties such as filing, review/revise policy manuals/handbooks, prepare/distribute program materials, process program registrations, prepare presentations, draft correspondence, and thank you letters.
  • Maintain confidentiality and keeps accurate children/youth/client files and statistical reports.
  • Provide administrative support as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
