About The Position

The YMCA of Western North Carolina is seeking a Youth Development Attendant to supervise children in the YMCA Youth Development Center. This role is responsible for providing safe and enjoyable childcare for members and their children in accordance with the YMCA Mission and policies. The attendant will ensure the safety and well-being of each child, maintain constant visual and auditory supervision, and create a fun and playful atmosphere. Responsibilities include planning and supervising children's activities, performing general housekeeping to maintain a clean and safe area, and adhering to all YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 15 years of age or older.
  • Must be working toward a high school diploma or GED.
  • CPR certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Effectively supervise children ages 6 weeks to 12 years.
  • Demonstrated ability to work constructively and positively with children, parents, and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a childcare setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise children in the YMCA Youth Development Center.
  • Provide safe and enjoyable childcare for members and their children.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of each child under supervision.
  • Maintain visual and auditory supervision at all times.
  • Create a fun and playful atmosphere for participants.
  • Plan and supervise children's activities.
  • Perform general housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and safe area.
  • Meet and follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  • Greet members and children enthusiastically and learn their names.
  • Perform check-in and check-out duties and procedures.
  • Engage with children during each shift.
  • Familiarize with program offerings and refer members to appropriate supervisors.
  • Communicate any issues to supervisors or the Manager on Duty.
  • Keep the facility safe and clean during and after programming.
  • Attend and actively participate in all required trainings, meetings, and program development activities.
  • Assist as needed in emergency situations.
  • Maintain a positive and supportive attitude to all center staff, members, volunteers, and program participants.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
