About The Position

Responsible for the implementation of youth dance programs. This role involves demonstrating and teaching dance skills to students in various levels and disciplines, creating lesson plans, preparing participants for performances, and managing classroom behavior. The instructor will also interact with participants and parents, maintain supplies, and provide excellent customer service in accordance with Wheaton Park District policies.

Requirements

  • Minimum 16 years old
  • At least 4 years of experience in dance required
  • CPR/AED certified or obtain within 90 days of employment
  • Be a 'Mandated Reporter' for the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act
  • Must have good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in dance or related field preferred
  • Knowledge of objectives and ideals of dance elements desired

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate and teach dance skills to students in a variety of levels and disciplines of dance including but not limited to ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and/or hip hop.
  • Create and implement lesson plans appropriate to skill level and dance style.
  • Prepare participants for end of session shows or recitals as needed including choreographing dances, choosing costumes, and music and be in attendance for performances.
  • Present new ideas regarding dance programming.
  • Responsible for taking attendance and managing classroom behavior.
  • Must interact and communicate with participants and parents.
  • Responsible for communication and scheduling of makeup classes.
  • Maintain supplies and report any supply needs to recreation manager.
  • Provide a high quality of customer service in a professional manner to the internal customer that will facilitate team building and exceptional customer service to the external customer.
  • Follow the Wheaton Park District policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Proactively support the District Mission Vision and Values.
  • Maintain good safety awareness and follow all safety guidelines and procedures.
