About The Position

Dance Instructor- Hip Hop/Drill/Jazz etc. (Kent Parks & Recreation, Kent Commons) Part-time, 14 hrs. per week or less Hourly Pay: $21.00 - 24.00 Location: Kent Commons Community Center. Dance instructors can teach different styles of dance to children in the community. Day-to-day tasks include preparing for class, teaching class, and cleaning up the space after class. Instructors will primarily teach a group of no more than 12 students. Music recitals are held in early December and June. Typical schedule during afterschool hours (4pm-8:30pm) and on Saturdays (9am-2pm). A mutually agreed upon schedule will be determined after the application and interview process. Tentative Start Date: September. Dance Instructor duties and responsibilities include: Provide fun, informative and exciting classes or learning opportunities in assigned program area. Select all music and choreograph all dance combinations. Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision. Interact professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers. Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments. Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations. Observe applicable safety requirements, use safety equipment provided, implement appropriate safety practices at all times and report any unsafe working conditions or hazards. Complete required administrative reports, such as attendance logs and incident reports. Must pass a position relevant criminal background check.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Experience in working with kids, teens, and adults
  • Experience and knowledge of youth dance programming experience
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of assigned recreation programs, activities, and services.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety guidelines and practices.
  • Skill in overseeing and instructing/teaching others.
  • Ability to handle conflict and solve problems using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Ability to navigate emergency situations.
  • Work with diverse groups of people in a tactful, effective, and respectful manner.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, the community and program participants.
  • Follow instructions, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to safely perform job tasks in a variety of park and non-park settings.
  • Must pass a position relevant criminal background check.
