About The Position

The Youth and Community Engagement Worker role at Jigsaw focuses on youth voice and engagement, and youth mental health promotion within community and educational settings. This position involves delivering a variety of youth mental health promotion activities for young people, parents/guardians, and those who work with young people. A key aspect of the role is supporting Jigsaw’s youth advocates to participate, have their voices heard, and influence decision-making within the organization. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Waterford.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent in youth/community work, health promotion, or a relevant education or social sector discipline.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in developing and implementing programs relevant to working with young people.
  • Experience of working with young people and community groups in a community, education, or health care setting.
  • Passion for enabling youth voice and engagement.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and group facilitation skills.
  • Full, clean driving license and access to a car.

  • Experience of working in a collaborative manner across multiple agencies and sectors.
  • Knowledge of theory and practice in youth participation and/or health promotion.
  • Experience of planning and evaluating projects.
  • Familiarity with local services for young people (education, health, community, voluntary agencies).

  • Strong organizational, administrative, and report writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation, evaluation and ongoing evolution of Jigsaw’s youth voice and engagement framework.
  • Facilitate the engagement and participation of youth advocates through recruitment, induction, training, and ongoing support.
  • Facilitate youth advocate meetings regularly to ensure young people are central to Jigsaw's work and to identify issues related to youth mental health.
  • Support initiatives that build the capacity of youth advocates to act as ambassadors for youth mental health.
  • Support youth advocates in developing and resourcing a youth voice and engagement plan.
  • Review the effectiveness of the youth advocate work plan and youth voice strategies with the Jigsaw Service Manager.
  • Liaise with the Jigsaw Service Manager/Clinical Manager to promote and support the mental health and wellbeing of youth advocates.
  • Strengthen and develop local networks and partnerships with community organizations to improve youth mental health outcomes.
  • Support the development and implementation of initiatives that build community capacity to promote youth mental health.
  • Coordinate and respond to requests for workshops and programs at the local Service level.
  • Facilitate/co-facilitate a broad range of mental health promotion workshops and programs for young people and those who work/volunteer with them.
  • Represent Jigsaw at local community meetings.
  • Communicate with a broad range of stakeholders and produce reports/presentations.
  • Develop appropriate promotional materials for the Service in collaboration with Jigsaw.
  • Collaborate with Fundraising and Communications to identify funding opportunities for youth and community engagement activities.
  • Ensure all activity is delivered in compliance with Jigsaw policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all activity is recorded on TeamDesk.
  • Ensure accurate monitoring and reporting of Key Performance Indicators.
  • Participate in Jigsaw education, training, and networking events.
  • Comply with Jigsaw's Child Protection and Welfare Policy.
  • Comply with responsibilities under the Data Protection Acts and GDPR.
  • Be flexible regarding working hours, including late evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Prepare reports and updates for the Service Manager/Jigsaw.
  • Participate in team meetings and other necessary meetings.
  • Undertake other duties as requested by the Service Manager/Jigsaw.
